Which selfies to upload for the best AI headshots

Updated 27 October 2026

Upload 1–4 clear, recent selfies where your face is easy to see: good light on your face, no sunglasses, hats or heavy filters, and nobody else in the picture. Different angles and expressions help the AI keep your likeness.

What makes a good selfie

  • Light on your face: stand facing a window or sit outside in shade. Avoid strong light behind you.
  • Your whole face visible and in focus, looking roughly at the camera. A phone camera is fine.
  • No sunglasses, caps or face filters, and nothing covering your face.
  • Only you in the photo. Crop out other people before uploading.
  • Recent photos, so the headshots look like you today.
  • If you upload more than one, use different angles or expressions rather than near-copies.

What to avoid

Blurry or very dark photos, faces turned far to the side, and group photos give weaker results. If the AI can't find a clear face, the run stops with the message “We couldn't find a clear face in your photo” and your credits are refunded, so you can try again with a sharper, front-facing photo.

Choosing the look

Each headshot tool lets you choose an outfit and a background, from business suits and blazers to a formal kurta, on studio, office and other backdrops. Pick the tool for where the photo will be used: LinkedIn, résumé, professional and more.

Each run makes 1, 2 or 4 headshots at 5 credits each. To check a look cheaply, make one first, then make more in the style you like.

Photos of other people

Only upload photos of someone else with their permission, and never photos of anyone under 18. Tools that work with faces ask you to confirm this every time. See our acceptable use rules.
